First Aid - open to all

The Group will be running RYA First Aid Courses throughout the autumn/spring. They last one day and will be held in our Scout Halls 147 Mossgiel Road, Glasgow G43 2BY. The cost of the course, including lunch, is £40.00. Discounts apply for Scouts and members of the 29th Glasgow Scout Group. More details about the course are presented at the bottom of this page.

VHF Courses - open to all

Over the winter months the Group will be running a number of VHF, DSC courses. The courses last for one day and use the latest DSC VHF Training Radios. The course fee of £75.00 includes the License fee payable to the RYA, handbook, various handouts, lunch and refreshments throughout the day. All participants must bring a passport size photograph with them. Discounts apply for Scouts and members of the 29th Glasgow Scout Group. The last course was on Sunday 20 April and all participants passed with over 90% in the formal examination.

Basic Navigation and Safety Course

The Basic Navigation and Safety Course is a new 2 day RYA course designed as an introduction to Boating.
We ran one in February and hope to run another next winter. 

This course gives a basic introduction to navigation and safety for anyone new to boating: sailors, powerboaters, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. It is also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers. The course covers charts and publications, safety, buoyage, tidal awareness, basic navigation & pilotage, rules of the road, electronic navigation, anchoring, weather forecasts and passage planning. The cost for the course is £90.00 including student pack, lunch and refreshments. Discounts apply for Scouts and members of the 29th Glasgow Scout Group.

This is the RYA’s basic First Aid Course. The course includes aspects associated with accidents that could occur away from immediate assistance and the treatment for hypothermia. 

Pre Requisites    

None, minimum age is 14.

Following successful completion of this course you will be awarded the RYA’s First Aid Certificate.

Clothing Required  

This course is all indoors. Casual clothing is required bearing in mind that part of the course is participation and you will at some time be the ‘patient’.

For this course just come along and we will start from there. First Aid handbook 9th edition is available for purchase from the instructor. You may find a small notebook helpful

Notes                        

This course will cover the aspects that are within the Scout and Guide Association’s ‘First Response Course’. The course is MCA and HSE approved. There is no formal examination with ongoing assessment by the instructor.
