Explorer Sea Scouts in uniform

The 29th Glasgow Explorer Sea Scouts are open to boys and girls from the age of 13½ to 18. The Explorer Sea Scouts are led by John Archibald, Alistair Duncan, Anne Marie Alexander, Ashleigh Noble, Kimberley Noble and Andrew Cooper, with additional support in running the section from several skills instructors, all with various scout and outdoor activities qualifications and experience.

The weekly meetings are held on Friday nights in our Scout Halls and run from 7.30pm till 9.30pm. In addition to this we are out and about most weekends of the year for one day to either sail, powerboat, do maintenance on the boats or take part in some other outdoor activity.

The Explorer Sea Scout uniform consists of plain black trousers, a sea scout blue shirt with black tie and black shoes, which is smart yet simple.

If you would like to join please come along on any Friday evening or contact John using the email link on the left for further information.

Powerboating and sailing
Sailing

As the only Explorer Sea Scouts in Glasgow, our obvious passion is sailing and powerboating. With regular opportunites to sail during both weekends and holidays, our scouts are never short of chances to gain more/new experience on the water.

The 29th Glsgow Scout Group are an RYA approved training centre for both powerboating and sailing, so there are plenty of opportunities for scouts to gain nationally recognised qualifications.

With the support of RYA qualified instructors and young leaders, there are plenty of opportunites for young keen sailors to acquire valuable knowledge and understanding in all things boating.

The majority of our boats are based at Largs Sailing Club, where we sail during the summer months. The 29th Scout Group are members of the club, which allows us to use all the clubs facilities. As part of our membership with the club, we offer our assistance at major sailing events and other smaller club events held throughout the year.

Activities Mountain biking and kayaking

Being Sea Scouts our main activity is sailing, but contrary to popular belief we do a wide variety of other activities. Such as hill walking, mountain biking, river rafting, kayaking, bowling, curling, climbing, quad biking, hill walking, go-karting and many more, as well as all the traditional Scout activities.

Duke of Edinburgh Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is run side by side with the Scout Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award aims to provide the participant with an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach. The award scheme consists of three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each of the levels tests the participants in the following areas: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expeditions.

The majority of the Explorer Sea Scout's Duke of Edinburgh expeditions are sailing expeditions taking place in the Firth of Clyde.
