Thursday Discovery Scout Programme

For 2017 we plan a varied and exciting programme of activities.  In addition to the Thursday evenings we hope to get out for fun and adventure.

While the majority of the programme activities will be for everyone in the Troop there will be a few for the older experienced Scouts.

In discussion with the Scouts and Patrol Leaders here are some points for noting and looking forward to.

Summer Camp

The “Big Event” of the Scout year is of course the Summer Camp.  This year we are venturing overseas to attend the Northern Ireland Jamboree.  This is being held from 29 July to 5 August.  We have already got your names for this Jamboree and have booked the places.  Details of payment plan and more background will be issues during January.

Lochgoilhead Weekend

We have booked accommodation for a weekend at the Lochgoilhead Centre from 17 to 19 March.  With the Friday being St Patricks day look out for an Irish theme.  This camp is being heavily subsidised so hopefully most of the Troop can manage.

Island Adventure.

This is a weekend open to the older/experienced Scouts.  It is a National Camp from Friday 5 May to Monday 8 May and is based close to Lamlash on the Isle of Arran.  The camp starts and finishes at Ardrossan – we will get the Scouts there but then it is up to them supported by the Camp Staff.  In theory our Leaders are not with you although Pam will be one of the organising team.

Mountain Biking

Yes we hope to get the wheels turning again.  Trevor has been on a course to facilitate him supervising some more adventurous off road cycling.

Powerboating, Sailing, Kayaking and Canoeing

We are planning a number of courses to introduce these activities and develop the skill some of you already have.  Hopefully the weather after Easter will be kind and allow us to have fun.

Weekend Camps

Again for after Easter we will have camps planned.  These will also help in preparation for the Jamboree.  The weekend camps should be open to all.

Awards and Challenges

We will be continuing to facilitate the completion of as many of the Challenge Awards.  As you know for the more adventurous challenges overnight hikes are require.  These will be arranged.  Map reading is an essential skill which is why we have been introducing navigation to the Thursday evening programmes.
